Before I bought Creme de la Mer, I went to Sephora to see if I could get a cheaper alternative. I tried the Kinerase line (and bought a sample size kit). It feels hydrating and has the added benefits of the active ingredient which is supposed to target fine lines/age spots/etc. I would recommend the Kinerase Night Therapy. It has a wonderful richness but not greasy at all.
My winter regimine includes these products:
Creme de la mer: $130/oz and doesn’t work for everyone but has done WONDERS for me. I had painfully chapped skin (burns when you use lotion, breaking out, so dry it was wrinkling) and this balm soothed it after two days. Even tho it has mineral oil, scent, etc, it didn’t irritate my skin at all. Chat up the ladies at Saks/Neiman and appeal to their sympathy and get a sample if you don’t want to shell out the bucks without trying.
Coconut oil: you can get it at whole foods for $10/huge tub. I prefer coconut oil to shea butter because it has a low melting point. You can scrape off a tiny bit and rub it between your hands and it instantly becomes an oil. I apply it ALL over my body right after a shower/bath without completely drying my body so that the moisture gets sealed in. It’s 100% natural and will pretty much sink in completely. I hate the feel of lotion on my body.
Weleda Skin Food: great for hands/dry spots. Also natural.
Neutrogena Sesame Body Oil: Either sprinkled in bath or applied post shower, works to seal in moisture and smells lovely
Neutrogena Emulsion: I use this on top of coconut oil/sesame body oil to provide an extra barrier. This product may be on the “about to be discontinued” list and is somewhat hard to find. I get mine at CVS/Amazon.
Neutrogena Hand Cream: Filled with glycerin, this hand cream does NOT budge. Great for winter/mothers who wash their hands a lot.
byTerry Baume de Rose: Tricia recommended this balm a while ago. It is $55 but has an SPF. So creamy and luxurious and worth the money if you’re a balm freak like me. It has the smell of Rosebud Salve but is superior in texture/longevity/sun protection. In a pinch and cheaper options are burt’s bees balm or even the Neutrogena Hand cream.
Shiseido Future Solution Eye and Lip contour cream: $120 but amazing. I don’t know how to describe it except to say it “sticks” to your skin. It has a super thick texture not like a gel or a lotion and it fills in all the lines/wrinkles in your mouth and eyes. Also it has a natural whiteness to it which helps with dark circles. Combined with Tricia’s eye slept and dark circles don’t stand a chance.
As you can see, I am a product junkie and this is just a short list of things I love for Chicago winters. Today’s the first real snow of the season and I’m gearing up for a chappy/cold/windy winter. Let me know if you have other products I need to try.
