I want to thank you so much for such a wonderful and educational website. I too want to become a make-up artist. I am a licensed cosmetologist but they didnt teach anything about make-up in school we just took a simple test with questions like what is eye shadow and whats lipstick used for. Now that ive decided i want to do make up i feel like im back to square one. I spent thousands on beauty school and really cant spend anymore. I also have 2 small kids and cant travel far. Ive recently took a job working at an estee lauder counter for some training.
I would like to do make up for weddings and photography for now. I would greatly appreciate any advice you can give me.
Thank you again,
Mel

I think enthusiam and passion account for a lot in our business.  And sometimes it can even mean more than experience!

Love what you do.  Read all you can on the subject, and look into local wedding photographers or a salon you can hook up with.

I hope you realize that you have a big advantage over other artists that you may not have thought about; since you have a cosmetology liscense, you can work in a salon, and secondly, getting married is costly!  I don’t know any bride who wouldn’t appreciate a bargain at that time of her life.  You could offer a great value doing the brides hair and make up!

Remember: Working behind a make up counter can be great for a short term goal, but be mindful of why you went there in the first place and don’t be scared to leave so-called security for your future.

Good Luck!
